Best Holiday Cocktails
AB Fits
Oftentimes, the holidays necessitate a good drink or three. Here are a few of our favorites.
Spiked Fake Egg Nog
Egg Nog gets a tough rep, probably because a lot of people don’t like drinking eggs. We agree. That is when when the brilliantly appointed Soy Nog came along, we jumped on it. This stuff is gold (literally, actually): lots less caloric, still tastes great and is really fun to mix with equal parts whiskey, rum, brandy and some freshly grated nutmeg. We recommend putting it all together in a big batch, chilling thoroughly and serving that evening for best results.
Warm Cider Rum Punch
Its that time of year. Everyone wants something warm, and nothing is better than warm cider with the right additions. Blend 8 cups of cider with two cups of dark rum and add a couple of cinnamon sticks, a little bit of thinly sliced ginger (1 inch should do the trick) and thinly sliced orange and apple (one each) to make a beautiful drink everyone will love.
Holiday Bubbles
Here to help you get all fancy is the prettiest holiday cocktail on our list. You’ll need a bottle of Angostura bitters, a bottle of very cold champagne, sugar cubes and orange peels for garnish. Douse a sugar cube with the bitters, drop it in the champagne flute and fill the glass with champagne. Garnish, serve, be loved.
Mulled Wine
The cure all. The basics for this amazing drink are as follows: combine 4 cups of apple cider, one bottle of red wine (a cab is great, but really anything will do), ¼ cup of honey, a zested, four whole cloves and juiced orange and 2 cinnamon sticks. For those who want to get really fancy, add some orange peels for garnish. Combine and bring all basics to a boil then simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
The Ultimate Hot Toddy
The best warm thing on a chilly night and just so classy, we turn the hot toddy for all things winter warmer drink. Take one lemon, thinly sliced, add ½ cup of Demerara sugar, 1 quart of water and 2 ½ cups of whiskey. Combine water, sugar and lemon and heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely (usually 20-30 mins). Add the whiskey, reduce heat and serve warm to make everyone happy. So happy.
